Living Western Horsemanship:
Personal
Narratives by Leading
Horsemen of the American West
is a collection of shared wisdom from several of the most respected Western horsemen in America. The contributors are legendary names in the industry: Buster Welch, Al Dunning, Bob Avila, Ronnie Richards, Jake Barnes, Leon Harrel, Ron Ralls, Craig Cameron, and John Lyons. The book also includes a special tribute to Ray Hunt.
Rather than sharing specific training advice in their respective disciplines, this collection is unique in that each writer expresses his thoughts and convictions regarding horses, people, and life. While each contributor has his own distinct philosophies and wisdom to convey, they share in common a love for the Western lifestyle, a tireless work ethic, and dedication to equine sports.
What makes the book even more exceptional is that renowned photographer, Robert Dawson, captures the essence of what Western horsemen love best in a series of striking photographs of horses, cowboys, and the scenic beauty of the West. Dawson's work provides added magic to this outstanding collection.

This book is dedicated to the half million young members of the
National FFA Organization.
Advisor and teacher Dave Yost and his students from the Joseph, Oregon, chapter of the FFA; supporters Brent and Connie McKinley; and the nine contributing writers who care about the future of America's youth made this book possible. Thank you to Tammy LeRoy, Robert Dawson, Bryan Daws and Katy Jane Bothum for their contribution to this project. With the help of Kathryn Mennone and Maureen Graney of The Lyons Press, a portion of the proceeds from this book will go to local chapters of the National FFA Organization.
"The FFA is a big part in the foundation of this country. Established in 1928, the commitment, responsibility, ethics and goals that it teaches our youth is tremendous. This organization is making a positive difference in these young men and women's lives. Horsemanship also stems from this great organization and I am proud to have been able to help FFA so that it can carry on with its work for future generations to come." ~ Chris Cox |
